The Griffin-Spalding County Airport Authority is getting organized.

At its first meeting, the board was sworn in, elected officers, made committee assignments and adopted bylaws and a code of ethics.

Griffin City Attorney Drew Whalen and Spalding County Manager William Wilson Jr. addressed the authority on the legal and operational issues, with Wilson recommending the existing Airport Advisory Board be kept in place until at least January for operation of the current airport.

Wilson said the current airport operation was budgeted from both the city and county through fiscal year 2013, which just began and concludes June 30, 2013. Wilson said he and City Manager Kenny Smith recommended the Advisory Board continue through January.
