The cause of the fire that destroyed the Lighthouse Restaurant Tuesday night remains under investigation.

According the Barnesville Fire Department, arson investigators were at the scene Wednesday, working to determine the cause of the fire. Firefighters were dispatched to the fire about 5 p.m. to the restaurant known for its seafood at 1402 Old 41 Highway in Milner.

The restaurant was not open at the time of the fire as it is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Firefighters from several agencies were called it to help with the fire including Spalding County and Griffin, as well as Barnesville, Lamar County, Pike County, Monroe County and Forsyth.

“The devastating fire completely gutted the restaurant. It was a total loss.” said the restaurant’s management via the outgoing answering machine phone message.

“We don’t know what our plans will be,” they said in the message. “We definitely will be closed for an extended period to remodel and replace.”

They asked, “please keep us in your prayers. Hopefully we’ll reopen before too long.”

I am so sorry to hear of the fire and certainly hope it is not ruled arson. This has been a favorite place for my family for many years. Hopefully it can be rebuilt soon.
