• To the person who wrote in that My Two Cents, Ronda Rich and News of Yesteryear were your favorite sections of the GDN, you must not have much of a life.

• The people who are against the T-SPLOST remind me of the caveman on the Geico commercials.

• That was one tacky Fourth of July parade. It was just a bunch of politicians campaigning for office and some businesses advertising their business. The parade has changed from an opportunity to celebrate freedom to an opportunity for free advertising.

• First, let me say I am not on food stamps and never have been. My question is, why can one purchase colas, $12 steaks, candy, etc., with stamps but you cannot purchase laundry detergent, dish detergent, bath soap, toilet tissue, paper towels, sanitary products, or even aspirin, etc.?

To the person who made the comment that the 4th of July parade was tacky and it was just a bunch of politicians and businesses advertising for FREE in the parade!!! Well I was one of the businesses in the parade and I have you to know that IT COST ME MORE TO BUY THE DECORATIONS AND CANDY FOR THE FLOAT THAN IT WOULD HAVE FOR ME TO PLACE AN AD IN THE PAPER OR ONE OF THE LOCAL MAGAZINES!!!!! NOT TO MENTION the hours of planning and decorating the float as well as the cost to pay my employees to come in on a HOLIDAY to be in the parade and to decorate the float! We enjoy being in the parade as it helps with the morale of our business and the employees to work together on a "fun" project! BUT it's idiots like YOU who no matter how much time and effort we put into this parade had something negative to say about it! So here's a thought for you...If the businesses are no longer allowed to put their names on the float and politicians are no longer allowed...Lets see how short of a parade it will be!!! In the mean time it would do you some good to find something to do with your time rather than trying to find something to drag others down about!

The NAACP are a bunch of racist nitwits!

You have demonstrated that you are a racist nitwit just by making such a ridiculous statement.

This statement is not only rude, it is grammatically incorrect. Did you mean to say that the PEOPLE who belong to the NAACP are .. . . . ? In that case I must assume that you personally know each and every member. How about saying that the NAACP is an organization that promotes racism, is outdated, and does more harm than good.

One would only assume you are either a member or you symphathize with members. I could care less if you CALL me a racist. I am not a member of any group that clearly promotes racism. Those who are members of NAACP are. Try getting your information from other sources other than the main stream media (NBC,ABC,CBS). They do not tell you the truth of whats going on in America---and if you haven't figured out--there is no need for a group that's only goal is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

And when you both think about it--how do you know what color I am? You don't see me. So how do you know what color I am? If a black person calls NAACP racist--is that person racist? And how can calling an organization that only works for the advancement of one skin color--no mention of character--be a rude comment? Don't you think its rude that an organization even exists in 2012? When you are advancing a persons color--and thats the only thing you are advancing--what does that say about society? Lets take a look at Clayton County for instance. There is a great example of NAACP work. There are virtually no other ethninticities running that county other than what NAACP works to put in control. How's that county doing? Would you want to live there with the crime rates and home values? Even if we look outside of our own state and exam Detroit, MI. What about that city? Name me something that the NAACP has advanced into power that is successful? You CAN NOT expect success when you are only promoting ONE SKIN COLOR. You can not expect success by promoting skin color period. What happened to character? Where's that in their creed?

Can anyone tell me whats the purpose of "Dog Poop" stations, if the city isnt going to empty them! The one on the corner of 6th st. is OVERFLOWING with bags of dog poop!!!

Only one can surmise the reason for those poop stations is to make the people living on those streets have a little bit more than everyone else around here. Have you noticed--they weren't installed anywhere else. I'd really like to know if they even dared to instruct our garbage collectors to empty them. I think this is a job for Captain Clean Water (Brandt Keller) and his cronies. That department is concerned about the dog poop washing into the sewers and contaminating our drinking water. I guess it only contaminates on East College and Maple though.

Debit card? Boy, am I behind the times! That's a good move. Surely it has helped with the problem of people selling their stamps for drugs. Didn't think about the transportation problem. . . .especially for people who truly need the assistance. You're right about programming the cards to only accept certain items. That should be so simple I wonder why it hasn't already been done. I still think convenience and specialty stores should be taken off the list of accepted shopping spots.. .or at least drastically restricted in what they can sell.

Nobody wants to see anyone going hungry so the food stamp program is a good idea. The problem is that like most government programs it has become corrupt, and that's not just on the part of some of the recipients. Not only are some of the items purchased with food stamps outlandish, but the places you can use the stamps are ridiculous. In a town the size of Griffin there should be a food outlet where only the necessities are stocked, and sold at wholesale prices, and that should be the ONLY place the stamps can be used.

Individuals that receive support from DFACS use a debit card instead of stamps. A central wholesale location would be very difficult for people to reach because many people walk to get their groceries. All that has to be done is for sensible people to list items that every household needs plus some variety for dietary differences and have those things be the only type of items accepted by the cards. Even if someone has an illness and needs special food, a computer program should be able to alter that person's card. What really happens is that very few restrictions are placed on these debit cards, and parents use them in ways that you would never believe.

The people who are for the T-SPLOST remind me of the people who think you can solve our problems by simply raising taxes. If we need to spend money to improve transportation infrastructure, then figure out what can be cut (and don't say there isn't anything) at all levels of government and use that money.

In regards to the T-Splost, before you folks condem everyone who opposes more tax revenue, try to remember the elderly and disabled who must make do with a very limited and fixed income. One more brick on the wagon may possibly hobble the horse! There are folks struggling to keep their heads above water now...what should we do? Throw them an anchor?

I am against the T-SPLOST and would be very happy to challenge you to an intellectual debate at your convenience. I am sure you do not have the ability to compete in such a debate, but I will try to speak on your level.

What's the big deal on the T-Splost. You only pay when you buy something in this county. Keep going to the surrounding counties buying goods and services and help their economy. There's more people from Pike,Lamar,Upson coming here buying goods than people from Spalding so they'll fund the projects.

You gripe about there being so much section 8 and rental property in the community nows the time for them to pay their fair share.

The cotton mills shut down years ago but the lintheads are still trying to live in the 1940's.

Understood. If people can buy steaks, colas, etc. on food stamps, why is there still a soup kitchen in Griffin? Why are they feeding people for free, when those people are getting all of their needs met through the government?

Why is Griffin's welcome sign a grown man wearing a wife beater riding a bicycle? Any way you come in to town--you are sure to spot one of these.

Why does the city managers office need a 2013 Ford Explorer from Speedway Ford?

Why is our money being spent like this?
