MACON — The Griffin Gators swim team took 16 hardy swimmers to the Macon Waves Heritage Swim Meet, braving the intensely hot temperatures Saturday to do pretty well in their events.

Gators officials said the Macon Waves officials didn’t give out team scores this past weekend. A few Gators garnered individual honors at the Macon Waves Heritage meet, however.

Alanna Wood, 6, placed first overall in the 6-Under girls division and Dwayne Harry, 15, placed first overall in the 15 & Over boys division for the Gators, who have participated in their fourth swim meet of the season. Also performing well for the Gators were Drew Tingle, 6 (3rd place, 6-Under boys), Deborah Hicks, 12 (3rd place, 11 & 12 girls) and LeeAnn Frank, 15 (3rd place 15 & Over girls).

“The kids swam really well despite the stifling heat outside on Saturday,” said Gators president David Horne.

The Gators are now on a break from meets until the District Swim Meet in Carrollton, which is slated for Saturday, July 14. Those who do well at District can qualify for the State Swim Meet July 27-28, also in Carrollton. In between District and State, the Gators will host the Griffin Gator Invitational on July 20-21, a meet the Gators have won for five straight years.

The Gators will still practice Mondays through Thursdays this month (except on July 4) in the evenings.
