With temperatures expected to exceed 100 degrees this weekend, Spalding County Fire Department along with the City of Griffin Fire Department announce the opening of a heat relief center to help citizen cool off during this period of extreme heat.

The Heat Relief Center, which is located directly behind First Baptist Church at the Boy Scout Lodge Building, will provide water and other resources for those who become overwhelmed by the hot temperatures. Those without air conditions are also invited to the cooling center. Special thanks to Brian McCartney for providing both Fire Departments the option of using the Boy Scout facilities.

“The building is open to all who wish to come. There will be adequate staff available with water on hand, " said Spalding County Battalion Chief Jamie Clark.

The center will be open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

For more information, call Battalion Chief Jamie Clark at 770-467-4129.
