The plan sets the protocol for handling hazardous weather operations with clear-cut guidelines for emergency management. The plan includes the First Alert System, which provides residents with severe weather warnings.
It also assists in the justification of costs and purchases, and with this and other plans in place expedites reimbursement from both state and federal emergency management agencies.
“When we have all of these in place, it allows us to collect more from FEMA,” said County Manager William Wilson Jr.
Another part of this is a mass fatality plan, which sets the guidelines for handling mass fatalities, to facilitate an organized response to disasters.
Parts of the plan include memorandum of understanding agreements for the Spalding County Office of Homeland Security with the Kiwanis Club of Griffin, Griffin-Spalding County Airport and Carver Road Baptist Church to provide services or facilities during a mass fatality incident.
Wilson said the airport has emergency weather information and the agreement is with the current airport.
“We’ll have to come back with the new airport in 2017,” Wilson said.
