Spalding County could get $97.8 million for transportation projects if voters approve the 1 cent transportation sales tax July 31.

The transportation special purpose local option sales tax or T-SPLOST would be a 10-year, 1 cent sales tax with 75 percent going for designated projects in each of the 10 counties of the Three Rivers Regional Commission as well as provide each county with another 25 percent in unrestricted transportation funding.

If approved by a majority of voters across the 10-county Three Rivers district, Spalding County would get $74.9 million for 15 designated projects and another 25 percent or about $22.9 million would be divided between the county and the cities of Griffin, Orchard Hill and Sunny Side, based on the lane mileage of each, explained Robert Hiett of Three Rivers.
