The Spalding County Board of Commissioners took action Monday night to move ahead on the request for an airport authority.

The county commissioners voted 4-1 to approve a memorandum of understanding between the county, the city of Griffin and the Spalding County Water and Sewerage Facilities Authority. The commissioners then, by the same 4-1 vote, approved the resolution requesting the local legislation from the Georgia General Assembly to create an airport authority, this time with annexation included as was previously approved by the Griffin Board of Commissioners.

County Commissioner Bob Gilreath opposed the memorandum as well as the resolution. He did not say why Monday night, but he has previously objected to the new airport plans.
