The first robbery occurred about 3 a.m. Saturday at Super Speed Zone on North Expressway. According to a GPD incident report, Hasan Elkadery, a store employee, stated that a black male entered the store, put a gun to Elkadery’s head and said, “Give me the money.”
When the suspect saw Elkadery push the alarm button, he left the story and ran north toward Ellis Road — despite getting to the store in a green bike. Elkadery described the suspect as being 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches and in his early 20s, wearing a white jacket with long, green sleeves. The suspect also had cloth wrapped around his mouth, so that only his eyes were showing.
GPD officers located a suspect in the area of Lyndon Avenue and North 18th Street but ultimately lost the suspect. The robbery remains under investigation.
The second robbery took place about 2:30 a.m. Sunday at the Liberty gas station on West Taylor Street. The victim, Al Hamza Batliwala, stated in a GPD incident report that a black male about 16 to 17 years old entered the gas station and robbed him at gunpoint with a silver handgun.
The suspect was wearing a hat, light-colored jeans and a white T-shirt with a black thermal shirt underneath. After the robbery, the suspect headed east on Taylor Street and finally ran north on 13th Street.
The GPD’s Crime Scene unit responded to the robbery and processed the scene.
