A couple from Milner — Paul and Susanne Uebler — took that generosity to a new level. The couple dropped off enough toys on Saturday to easily fill three of the boxes.
That day, according to local Toys for Tots Collection Box Coordinator Linda Blevins, the Ueblers stopped at Economy Rent a Car on West Taylor Street, where Blevins is the manager, and asked her whether the location was the right place to drop off toys for the campaign.
Blevins told them it was.
“Next thing I know, he backs his truck up to my front door. Then he starts unloading and unloading,” she said, adding that she was on the verge of tears when she saw what was happening.
In her conversation with the Ueblers, Blevins found out that the couple had set a goal last year to buy one toy each week this year for the Toys for Tots campaign. She also learned that Paul Uebler is a former Marine, which would explain the special connection to the campaign.
“It was amazing to me that they set this goal for themselves and then stuck with it,” Blevins said, recalling Susanne Uebler saying how much the couple enjoyed shopping for the toys while finding many of them on sale. “That’s often the case, when you want to help others, you have fun doing it.”
The community can join in on the fun Saturday at The Home Depot on Georgia Highway 16, where Santa Claus is expected to make an appearance at about 10 a.m. The local Toys for Tots campaign is hoping the community will bring and donate toys at the event.
