A single-vehicle accident early Sunday morning near the intersection of Chapel Hill Road and Melville Brown Road in Pike County took the lives of two Zebulon residents.

According to Maj. Doug Morris of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, it was about 12:30 a.m. Sunday when a Ford Explorer with four people in it overturned, killing Susan Guglielimo, 25, and Wayne Hallmark, 31.

Jonathan Evan Edalgo, 31, of Zebulon, was airlifted to an Atlanta trauma center. The driver of the vehicle, Austin Callaway-Ingram, 25, of Zebulon, was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. He has since been released.

Asked what caused the vehicle to overturn, Morris said the accident is still under investigation. He said it has not been determined if any of the occupants of the vehicle were intoxicated or whether the driver of the vehicle was speeding at the time of the accident.

However, he said none of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

“We’ll wrap it up in the next day or two,” Morris said about the time it will take to complete the investigation.
