• Did you really believe the big three Republican county commissioners would not vote for a tax increase? Our local Republican Party has put agendas over principle with who the party supports and the government we have. The last county commissioner election has consequences and just maybe the voters will wake up.

• What a shame the taxpayers have to pay the bill of $451,691 for the cost of a few nuts (occupiers of Atlanta) to camp out on public property in Atlanta. If the politicians had any guts they would force any overnighters to buy a bond to cover any and all expenses these nuts create.

• My only affiliation with The Griffin Daily News is as a reader, but I am nevertheless disgusted that the superintendent of schools would be petty enough to blast the paper over a sports headline. I find the reporting of sports to be the most consistent in the paper and am frequently impressed with the positive spin given to both high schools.

• The “dude” on the AT&T 4G commercial who did not get the message about the taco snack, looks and acts like the mayor of Atlanta.

• The Vietnam War has been over for 38 years now. I have often wondered why so much discrimination occurs against Vietnam veterans. I am a Vietnam veteran and never thought that much about it until I lost my job in 2009. Since then I have had cause to think more about it. I have come across job applications that ask specifically if I was a Vietnam vet.

• There’s not much backing it up and not much substance to the recent sports column about the Griffin and Whitewater football game. It reeks of him being jealous of Whitewater and Fayette County and he cannot let that spill over into his writing. It was very biased.

Where are all the comments from the Bible thumpers? Sunday package sales in Spalding County! (which I was opposed to) This is far more decadent than celebrating Halloween or operating a "brew pub". Come on folks, Sodom and Gahmora are a foot step away.

If nothing else, the Sullivan article allowed interesting commentary from several different viewpoints. Personally, I don't think he is jealous of Whitewater at all. I mean the big homes, the high graduation rates, higher test scores, the lower number of citizens receiving government aid, and more parental involvement with their children are nice. But Griffin is Great and Growing! And we have a 75% graduation rate, and test scores that are below state and national averages, and "we are a good school system!" so we should be proud, right Dr. Jones?!? Let's be honest here, being proud of our school system would be proud of exceeding mill town expectations. If we are no longer a mill town as Dr. Jones believes, stop holding us to those standards and compare us to normal towns, and in that regard, we greatly lag behind the competition.

My “two cents” involves questions on our Spalding County high schools.

What percent is there in racial classifications of white, black, asian, and hispanic in each school?

What race is the head administrator in each school?

What percent of the students are on free lunch and what percent on reduced lunch in each school?
