Only two of the four Spalding County sheriff candidates will be at tonight’s forum.

All four were invited and had agreed to attend the forum, said Jesse Maddox of the Democratic Party of Spalding County, which will host the forum.

“As of today,” Maddox said late Tuesday, “Tony Head and Keith Duncan have notified me that they would not be attending. They both committed over six weeks ago and now have other

pressing matters.”

Candidates Wendell Beam and Joel Jinks are still scheduled to attend. The four candidates for the Sept. 20 special election are running to complete the term of the late Dee Stewart.

The forum, to be held in place of the monthly meeting of the Democratic Party of Spalding County, will be at the Spalding County Courthouse Annex, Room 108, starting at 7 p.m. The forum is open to the public, as are the monthly meetings, Maddox said.

He said questions will be taken at the door “and selected by me for answers,” but added, with only two candidates “this may be modified.”

Light refreshments will be served at the completion of the forum, Maddox said, to give voters time to speak to the candidates.

That's probably because Beam is a democrate and Duncan is not. Makes sense to me.
