COLUMBUS, Ga. — The No. 1 Spalding Jaguars baseball team picked the wrong time to lose back-to-back games, falling 19-9 to the No. 6-ranked Columbus Blue Devils Tuesday in the third and deciding game of the 2011 Class AAA state championship series, held at Randy Jordan Field at Columbus High.
With the win, Columbus (30-9) is back-to back state baseball champions and the team has won its 11th state title. Spalding ends its terrific season at 32-5, losing Games 2 and 3 in the series — its only 2-game losing streak this season.
