Lady Jags track team wins meet at Westminster

The Spalding High Lady Jaguars track and field team ran against some top state teams at the Westminster meet March 30 and won the event, despite the terrible weather.

“The girls stepped up and did what they had to to help the team win,” said Lady Jags head coach Dolores Owen.

Final team scores were: Spalding 88, St. Pius X 63, Westminster 57 and Chapel Hill 40.

In the discus, Nifeesha Witcher was first at 82’5 and Nykerra Conley was seccond at 81’09. In the high jump, Grenishia Daniel was fourth at 4’10 and Twandalette Cotton placed fifth at 4’8.

In the long jump, Dominique Nock was 1st at 16’8 and Shaquoria Reid was 4th 14’1.

In the pole vault, Mary Owen Howell had a PR of 6’6 and in the shot put, Jayla Freeman was second at 28’4 and Jazma Jackson was third at 27’9.

In the triple jump, Dee Dee Matthews placed 1st at 31’11 and Cotton was fourth at 30’4.

The 4x100 relay team of Daniel, Matthews, Nock and Jenna Wesley placed first at 51.1, while the B team of Precious Martin, Veronica Anderson, Cotton and Reid placed fourth at 52.58.

In the 1600, Jenna Wesley finished fifth 5:28.2 and Li Anne Harris finished sixth with a PR 5:51.1.

In the 400, Grenishia Daniel finished second in 1:02.

In the 100m, Shaquoria Reid was first in 13.3, Dominique Nock was second in 13.4 and Dee Dee Matthews was third in 13.4.

In the 800, Jenna Wesley took first with a 2:21.8 and Meg Ward posted a PR to finish sixth in 2:37.1.

In the 200, Dominique Nock finished third in 27.5, and Dee Dee Matthews took fourth in 27.8.

In the 300 hurdles, Grenishia Daniel finished first in 50.2.

In the 3200, Li Anne Harris took second with a PR 13:21, Sarah Pate took fifth with a PR 14:02 and May Melton Geiger finished sixth with a PR 14:02.1.

In the 4x400 relay, the A team of Grenishia Daniel, Dominique Nock, Dee Dee Matthews and Jenna Wesley placed first with a 4:16.5, while the B team of Precious Martin, Shaquoria Reid, Veronica Anderson and Twandalette Cotton placed fifth.

Abby Argo also threw to shot 15.5 and Kizma Moore ran a 1:50.2 in the 400.
