The Griffin High and Spalding High girls soccer teams won their matches Tuesday evening against region foes.

Griffin (7-2, 4-1) defeated Region 3-AAAA Division A foe Alcovy 4-2 at home thanks to two first-half goals from Taylor Winslow.

Griffin scored the first three goals of the contest to lead 3-1 at the half. Abby Passmore scored the other first half goal for the Lady Bears.

Brittany Calloway scored Griffin’s final goal of the match to give the home team a 4-1 lead. Alcovy scored a late goal at the end to make the final score 4-2.

Griffin keeper Kelli Daniels had six saves in the contest and Michelina Walcott had an assist as well.

The Lady Bears are scheduled to host the second-place Ola Lady Mustangs next Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Spalding 10, Henry Co. 0: McDONOUGH, Ga. — Olivia O’Brien, Myra Fisher, Margaret Tatum and Reece McIver scored two goals apiece to lead the No. 9 state-ranked Spalding High Lady Jags to a 10-0 romp of the Henry County LadyHawks in Region 4-AAA action on the road.

Spalding is 9-1 overall and 5-0 in the region.

Li Anne Harris and Meg Ward scored the other two goals for SHS, which is in action Friday at region foe Sandy Creek at 6 p.m.
