LOCUST GROVE, Ga. — Spalding High lost a non-region doubleheader Saturday at Luella, the Lady Jags falling 50-35 and Jags falling 81-50.
Dee Dee Matthews scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked four shots, and Amesha Lindsey scored five points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Class AAA Lady Jags (5-13 overall) as they lost their sixth in a row and their seventh in the last eight games.
Class AAAAA Luella (6-10) won its third in the last four games.
SHS was down by six at the half, but went four minutes without a basket in the third quarter.
SHS head coach Demetrius King praised the play of Lindsey, “She did a good job handling the ball.”
The teams split the regular season series, Spalding winning 38-37 on Jan. 8 at home and losing by 15 on Saturday at Luella.
In the late game, the Spalding High boys lost by its largest margin this season — 31 points — to drop the season series to Luella by a combined margin of 54 points.
It was the second loss in the last three games for the Class AAA Spalding Jaguars (12-7), while Class AAAAA Luella (10-7) won its second in the last three games.
Spalding continues its season 6 p.m., today with a non-region doubleheader at home against Class A Wilkinson County. While the Wilkinson County girls (5-8) have rebounded from an 0-7 start by winning their last two in a row and five of their last six , the Wilkinson County boys (19-0) are undefeated and ranked No. 2 in Class A.
