She was born in Griffin to the late Green W. Smith and Amies Barnett Smith. She was a member of Devotie Baptist Church in Griffin, a homemaker and she enjoyed working in her flower gardens. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elijah Franklin Buffington, three brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Sally Buffington of Sunny Side and Lynn and Donna Buffington of Zebulon; grandchildren and their spouses, Jason Buffington, Nathan and Katie Buffington, Allison Buffington, Brian and Rebecca Buffington, Amy and Tyler Parsons, Helena Carden, Kristin Carden and Kathryn Buffington; great-grandchildren, Chase Buffington, Reese Buffington and Veda Parsons; sister and brother-in-law, Gwen and Gene Hearn of Hampton; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Jeanette Smith of College Park; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit the family from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1 in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Moody officiating. Interment will follow in the Milner Baptist Church Cemetery.
