Buford Flynt passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Flynt was born Aug. 31, 1921, and was a lifelong resident of Griffin except for the years he served in the U.S. Army, Military Police, stationed in Italy.

On leaving this physical life, Mr. Flynt joined his parents Otis and Lucy Christmas Flynt, his wife Margaret Windom Flynt, his son David “Teddy” Branham, his grandson Brad Scott Branham, his sisters Ruby Mangham, Audrey Cousson, and Dorothy Flynt, and his brothers Aubrey, Cecil and Otis Flynt Jr.

Mr. Flynt will be missed by many friends and family members. His family includes: his daughter Kathy Windom Kirkland, her husband Thomas and daughter Elizabeth of Napa, Calif.; his daughter Mary Angeline Windom Penley of Griffin and her daughters Kristee Penley Anderson of Nahunta, Ga., and Shea Penley of Griffin; and his son Bobby Lamar Windom of Griffin. He also leaves his daughter-in-law Shirley Levister Branham of Winnsboro, S.C., and her daughter Brandi Branham Grice of Irmo, S.C.; his sister Eunice Standard of Griffin; his sister-in-law Jean Flynt of Senoia; his aunt Lida Hill of Griffin, and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mr. Flynt also leaves his beloved friends and caregivers Cindy and James Turner of Griffin.

All family and friends are invited to come together on Saturday, the 23rd, between 6 and 8 p.m., at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, to pay their respects, share memories and support one another in their mutual loss. A second opportunity to come together will be on Sunday, Oct. 24 from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. The graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a donation to any nonprofit organization seeking to serve orphaned children, those with cystic fibrosis, the mentally challenged and/or veterans of the armed services.
