Georgia Insurance Commissioner’s Office. Investigator will be at the Griffin Department of Labor office from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 2 to assist residents with insurance problems or questions. For information call 770-228-7226.

A “Free Friday Night Movie Series” will be held every third Friday from June through August at the corner of Sixth Street and Solomon Street. The June 19 movie will be “Madagascar Escape 2 Africa.” The fun begins at 8 p.m. and the movie starts at dark. The series is sponsored by Spalding County Parks and Recreation and the City of Griffin Main Street Program.

The Griffin Police Department (GPD) will be holding a public hearing at 5 p.m. June 18 at the police department to provide an opportunity for citizens to express their opinions concerning the department’s use of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant under the Recovery Act. The GPD intends to use the funding to purchase equipment for the Uniform Patrol Division.

The Spalding County Cheerleading Association will have 2009 cheerleading sign-ups from noon to 2 p.m. June 20 and 27 at City Park Gym for ages four to 14. Birth certificate are required for 4-year-old participants. Go to www.spaldingcheer.com.
