Woodland sprints past Lady Jags; Griffin decks Lady Cards

The Spalding High Lady Jaguars softball team led 1-0 through three innings, but the visiting Woodland Lady Wolfpack erupted for seven runs in two innings to defeat Spalding 7-1 Tuesday evening in Region 4-AAAA action at Spalding High.

Spalding drops to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in region play while Woodland-Stockbridge improves to 7-7, 6-0.

Spalding took its lead in the bottom of the first inning. McKenleigh Kilgore walked and Whitney Combs made a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. The Woodland pitcher made a wild throw to first, which allowed Kilgore to score from first and Combs to advance to third for the 1-0 lead.

It was the only lead the Lady Jags would enjoy. Woodland scored five runs in the fourth inning and two more runs in the fifth for the final 7-1 margin.

Jessica Bunn went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Lady Jags. Combs and Zorria Mann also singled for Spalding, which travels to face region foe Locust Grove Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m.

Griffin 10, Jonesboro 0:

JONESBORO — The Griffin High Lady Bears softball team upped its win streak to a season-high three games Tuesday evening, thumping the Jonesboro Lady Cardinals 10-0 in 5 innings in Region 4-AAAA action on the road.

Cleopatra Randolph and Katie Rowell led the hit parade for Griffin (6-6 overall, 4-3 region), getting 2 hits each while the other Lady Bears smashed hits off Jonesboro (3-5, 0-5). Randolph pitched a complete game with 9 strikeouts.

Griffin hosts Dutchtown Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
