According to police, the incident occurred at about 10:34 p.m. at 1255 Cherokee Ave. When officers arrived they located 54-year-old Jesse Johnson, who was suffering from gunshot wounds to his arm and abdominal area. He was transported by EMS to Atlanta Medical Center, where his condition was unknown, police said Wednesday.
Officers arrested Joann Giddens, 48, of the same address, at the scene and charged her with aggravated assault. She was being held at the Spalding County Detention Center.
According to the incident report, Giddens is Johnson’s wife, and police were unable to locate the gun used in the shooting. Johnson’s daughters, ages 18 and 24, spoke with police. The 24-year-old reportedly told police that she hurt her hand when she hit Johnson in the head while trying to get him off her mother.
She declined to be transported by ambulance and said she had put ice on her hand. Her injuries were reportedly not visible.
