The No. 6 state-ranked Trojans improve to 4-0-1 overall and 2-0 in region play while NE Macon falls to 4-1, 1-1.
Jeremy Fletcher started the party for Lamar with a 6-yd TD run. The point-after by Tyler Scandrett was good and the Trojans never looked back. Lance Austin then hit wideout Quay Searcy for a 55-yard TD pass and Austin made the 2-point conversion for the 15-0 lead. Antwan Wallace then scored on a 52-yard TD run to give Lamar a 22-0 halftime lead.
Lance Austin threw an 87-yard TD pass to his twin brother Lawrence Austin to start the third quarter. Lance then hit Searcy for the 2-point conversion and the Trojans led 30-0. Scandrett hit two more field goals for the final 36-0 margin.
Lamar travels to face region foe Monticello (1-4, 0-2) Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Pike County 21, Jackson 14:
ZEBULON — The Pike County High Pirates football team took a 21-14 halftime lead over the Jackson Red Devils and made that stand to get its first Region 2-AAA win last Friday night.
Pike (3-3 overall, 1-1 region) defeated Jackson (4-2, 1-1) in its Homecoming Game by sprinting to a big first-half lead. Jackson scored first to make the score 7-0, but Pirates quarterback Tyler Gregory tied the game at 7-all with a 12-yard touchdown run. Pike then recovered an on-side kick and scored again, this time on a 50-yard TD pass from Gregory to Jacob Adkins to lead 14-7. Pike recovered another on-side kick and wideout Darius Jordan caught a TD pass afterwards, giving Pike the 21-7 lead.
Jackson scored again late in the second quarter to cut the Pirates lead to 21-14 at the half.
Neither team made any headway in the second half. Pike stopped the Red Devils on two fourth-down attempts and Jordan and Donald Brown had an interception each late in regulation to seal the victory for the Pirates.
Pike hosts region foe Southwest Macon (1-5, 0-2) Friday at 7:30 p.m.
