The 2012 Toys for Tots campaign by the Marine Corps League Detachment 1196 allowed for more than 7,000 toys to be distributed to children in the five counties it serves — Spalding, Pike, Upson, Lamar and Butts.

“Last year was a tough year for us,” said Toys for Tots Collection Box Coordinator Linda Blevins about the previous campaign. “We had a very successful year this year.”

Asked what made the difference this year, Blevins said the first annual Toys for Tots Golf Tournament, which was held on Oct. 23 at Canongate Sun City Peachtree, not only raised awareness for the campaign but also generated almost $8,000, all of which went toward the purchase of toys.
