Teen charged with murder

A Spalding County teenager has been charged with murder and other crimes after the shooting death of another teen.

According to a release from the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office, the office received a report of a person shot at about 7 p.m. Friday at a location on North Walkers Mill Road. Authorities located Cody Allen Ward, 19, of North Walkers Mill Road.Ward was taken by Life Flight to the Atlanta Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

According to investigators, Joseph Allen Parrott, 16, also of North Walkers Mill Road, shot Ward in a domestic dispute.

Parrott fled the scene, resulting in a “massive” air and land search conducted with the assistance of the Special Operations K9s, the Georgia State Patrol’s helicopter, Special Operations investigators, Criminal Investigations, patrol officers and troopers from Georgia State Patrol Post One.

Parrott was apprehended without incident at 6 a.m. Saturday and charged with felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He has already appeared before a Spalding County Magistrate Court judge and is being held without bail at the Griffin Regional Youth Detention Center.

He will be tried before the Superior Court of Spalding County.

No other information was available at press time because investigators are still interviewing witnesses and potential witnesses.
