T-SPLOST fails in nine of 12 regions

The transportation sales tax, or T-SPLOST, had the most votes of any item on Tuesday’s ballot and most of those were no votes.

In Spalding County, there were 9,287 votes, or 27.4 percent of the county’s 34,313 registered voters, deciding on the 10-year, 1-cent sales tax. Of those, 6,573, or 68.7 percent, said no with only 30.3 percent, or 2,814, saying yes.

According to Three Rivers Regional Commission Governmental Services Director Robert Hiett, county by county totals were:

•Butts,1,655 yes, or 34.95 percent, to 3,080 no, or 65.05 percent.

•Carroll, 4,260 yes, or 27.88 percent, to 11,019 no, or 72.12 percent.

•Coweta, 4,416 yes, or 22.55 percent, to 15,150 no, or 77.45 percent.

•Heard, 741 yes, or 32.72 percent, to 1,524 no, or 67.28 percent.

•Lamar, 905 yes, or 29.25 percent, to 2,189 no, or 70.75 percent.

•Meriwether, 1,986 yes, or 42.16 percent, to 2,725 no, or 57.84 percent.

•Pike, 1,112 yes, or 27.08 percent, to 2,995 no, or 72.92 percent.

•Troup, 3,899 yes, or 31.22 percent, to 8,590 no, or 68.78 percent.

•Upson, 3,487 yes, or 51.77 percent, to 3,248 no, or 48.23 percent.
