Monday’s game — Spalding’s first region win of the year — was a makeup game from an Aug. 28 rainout.
Jessica Bunn started on the mound for Spalding (4-7 overall, 1-3 region) and threw three innings, allowing a run in the first and blanking the Lady Cardinals (3-4, 0-4) afterwards. Lora Rape relieved Bunn, striking out two Jonesboro batters in one inning of service.
Several Lady Jags had great nights at the plate Monday. Zorria Mann was 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and three runs scored, Haedyn Kilgore singled, McKenleigh Kilgore led off the game with a triple and scored two runs, Whitney Combs was 1-for-1 with three runs scored and Quaneshia Walker singled and scored twice.
Spalding hosts first-place region foe Woodland-Stockbridge (6-7, 5-0) today at 5:30 p.m. and travels to face region foe Locust Grove on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Griffin (5-6, 3-3) has won two straight contests and looks to keep that win streak alive as it travels to face Jonesboro today in region action at 5:30 p.m. With a win, Griffin will climb to .500 overall for the first time since Aug. 21, when the Lady Bears blanked Riverdale 12-0 at home to improve to 3-3 overall at the time.
Griffin has been hitting the ball well lately, outscoring its last two opponents 26-2. The Lady Bears host currently undefeated Dutchtown (7-0, 3-0) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
