Spalding County has earned a StormReady designation from the National Weather Service.

In the year following the tornado, Spalding County has taken the steps the become a StormReady county, explained Barry Gooden of the National Weather Service. He said the county now has the capability to receive and disseminate the community emergency notifications.

The recognition is valid for three years and will expire June 30, 2015.

“There’s a whole lot of work to maintain it,” said Spalding County Emergency Management Agency Director and Fire Chief Kenny West. “It’s a process of continual improvement.”
