The Spalding County Board Of Elections has cancelled the Aug. 21 run-off election for Probate Court judge.

Candidate Jan Hunt has been declared winner by the Spalding County Board of Elections. This announcement comes after runner-up Kaye Landrum Norris withdrew from the run-off last week to prevent further costs to the county.

Hunt, the current assistant Probate judge received 4,147 votes or 47.48 percent of vote, the most votes but not enough to avoid a run-off with second place candidate, Norris. To avoid a runoff pursuant to the Georgia Elections Law, a candidate must receive 50 percent plus one of the votes cast.

Norris, who had 2,440 votes or 27.94 percent of the vote announced the afternoon of Aug. 2, she was conceding the race to Hunt. They were the top two vote getters of the four candidates running to succeed retiring Probate Judge Dewitt Simonton.
