The Pike County teenager who was allegedly shot by his stepfather Wednesday evening in a Williamson subdivision died Thursday at about 7 p.m., according to reports.

Joshua Lively, 17, was found with a gunshot wound to the head when deputies from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene in the Highway 362 West Place subdivision. Lively was transported to the Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition.

According to witness statements, Lively and his stepfather, Paul Johnson, had been involved in an argument prior to the shooting. At some point during the argument, Lively reportedly obtained a knife from the kitchen and began to become aggressive toward Johnson.

Pike County Sheriff Jimmy Thomas said in a press release that Johnson then became afraid for his safety and shot Lively. Johnson surrendered to deputies without incident.

Johnson has not been charged. The incident remains under investigation.
