A Novel Experience Bookstore in Zebulon will host a photography exhibit about dogs throughout the month of February.

“This is our third,” said curator Nancy McCrary. “It’s held every February.”

She said February is considered the month of love due to its association with Valentine’s Day and dogs provide unconditional love. The event has always benefited dog charities. This year, it will assist the Pike County Friends of Animals, which is trying to establish an animal shelter in Pike County, as well as search and rescue teams in Haiti using dogs to find survivors.

In a press release, McCrary went into more detail. She said the show will include 57 images of dogs working, playing or simply being dogs taken by 41 photographers from Newnan, Peachtree City, Fayetteville, Griffin, Thomaston, Atlanta and Savannah, as well as from Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, North Carolina and Florida.

There will be first-, second- and third-place prizes, as well as “best of show.” The judges this year will be Malgorzata Florkowska of Griffin and Dean Stevenson of Atlanta.

The event will run at the bookstore, which is at 426 Thomaston St. in Zebulon, from Feb. 1 to Feb. 28. There will be an opening reception that is open to the public on Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m.

Those interested in finding out more information should call A Novel Experience at 770-567-1103 or e-mail McCrary at mccrarynancy@gmail.com.
