Carol Jean King Lawrence

Carol Jean King Lawrence, 82, widow of Charley Lord Lawrence, Jr., died Monday, November 12, 2012 at University Hospital, Augusta, Ga.

A native of Griffin, Mrs. Lawrence was a daughter of the late Ewell Bernard King and Ossie Mae Dillard King. She graduated from Griffin High School and was proud to have served as a page for the Georgia State Legislature. She lived most of her adult life in Warner Robins, but had lived in Aiken, S.C. since 2008.

Mrs. Lawrence retired from the Base Exchange at Robins Air Force Base. She was very active in Boy Scouts of America while her boys were growing up. Mrs. Lawrence was a charter member of Green Acres Baptist Church and an active member of the Lois Sunday School Class in Warner Robins. She also was a member of the Volunteer Auxillary of Houston County Hospital and served as a Pink Lady for many years. Mrs. Lawrence loved to cook and garden and had a knack for decorating. She loved most preparing her home for visits by family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Keith (Barbara) Lawrence, Aiken, S.C., and Steve (Nancy) Lawrence, Watkinsville, Ga; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Dozier, Jonathan Lawrence, Andy Lawrence and Sara (Mitch) Kimbrell; four nephews, Gene King, Don King, David Gaddy and Joe Woodall. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Lawrence was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov.17, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Barnesville.

Mrs. Mary Jane Ethridge

Nov. 26, 1941—Nov. 12, 2012

Mrs. Mary Jane Tarpley Ethridge, age 70 of Griffin, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012 at Harbor Grace Hospice in Atlanta.

Mrs. Ethridge was born in Spalding County on November 26, 1941and grew up in the Vaughn Community. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Gay Tarpley and Louise Bates Tarpley Holcombe; sister, Mary Erin Tarpley Henderson; brothers, Stephen Jackson Tarpley, William Phillip Tarpley. Mrs. Ethridge worked at Southern States in Hampton for 15 years and was employed with Spalding County as a bailiff in court for 20 years until her retirement in 2004. She was a member of Griffin First Assembly of God since February 21, 1960.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Earl David Ethridge; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy Ethridge Beddingfield and Mitch; granddaughter, Kaley Brooke Beddingfield; along with her favorite furry companion, Lucy Belle; several cousins, nieces, nephews and many life long friends.

Visitation for Mrs. Mary Jane Ethridge will be Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Greg Marsh will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Carol Ann Smith

Mrs. Carol Ann Young Smith, age 61 of Griffin, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Spalding Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Smith was born in Coral Gables, Florida on February 5, 1951. She is preceded in death by her parents, Delbert Young, Sr. and Rennie W. Young. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she attended the Joy Sunday School Class, active in the Young at Heart and was in the Guild Circle. She was an associate member of the Major Stephen Pless, Detachment 1196 of Marine Corps League in Griffin, a member of the Bosom Buddies Cancer Support Group. Mrs. Smith was retired from Winn Dixie.

Survivors include her husband, Ernest C.J. Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Chad J.R. and Tracy Smith of Griffin; daughter and son-in-law, Carol R. A. and Hilton Barry of Smyrna; grandchild, Paisley Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Delbert M. and Judy Young of Lafayette, GA; her mother-in-law, Ann Smith of Griffin; several other family members.

Visitation for Mrs. Carol Smith will be Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 1:00pm at First United Methodist Church. Reverend Kevin Lobello, Reverend Delbert Young and Reverend C. C. Hinton will officiate. Interment will follow in Veterans Section of Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Bosom Buddies, c/o First United Bank, P. O.
