Mrs. Burdell T. Pollard

Mrs. Burdell T. Pollard, 90, of Griffin, passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at the Southland Health and Rehabilitation in Peachtree City.

Mrs. Pollard was born in Murphy, N.C., but lived in Griffin most of her life. Prior to her declining health, she was an active member of Carver Road Baptist Church, where she served for many years as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was faithful to her Lord, her church and her family. Mrs. Pollard was preceded in death by her husbands, Gilbert Chapman and Albert Pollard, and son, Butch Chapman.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Jo Chapman of Brea, Calif.; stepdaughter, Betty Kirkland of Rome; stepson, Tribble Pollard of Griffin; two granddaughters, Terri Chapman and Debbie Bagwell and her husband, David; one grandson, Mark Chapman; and two great-grandsons, Eric Chapman and Josh Bagwell, all of California.

Funeral services for Mrs. Burdell T. Pollard will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. The Rev. Gene Turkett will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Martha I. Lester Rooks, 81, of Griffin, Ga., passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 20, 1931, in Griffin to the late Arthur Lester and the late Maude Lee Lester. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bill Rooks; son, Danny Rooks; sister, Joyce Landers; brothers, Elmer Ingram, Arthur, Johnny, Bobby, and Eugene Lester; and grandson, Jimmy Rooks.

Survivors include companion, Ed F. Brooks; sons and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Jennie Rooks, Michael Rooks; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Jeff Hickman; grandchildren, Rhonda Rooks Sullivan, Jennifer and Marc Jones, Jamie and Jeff McLean, Cindy and Keith Cofield, Katie Rooks, and Mikey Pitts; 12 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Wylene Rooks Pitts. Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Rooks will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pastor Riley Finley will officiate. Friends may visit the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at the funeral home.

Mr. Larry Keith Carter

Mr. Larry Keith Carter, 61, of Hampton, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Emory University Hospital.

Mr. Carter was born on April 8, 1951 in Griffin, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his father, Preston Carter. He was employed by BAH Express, a member of Hampton First Baptist Church. Mr. Carter was a very kind, gentle, loving person that will missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Carter; his mother, Betty Carter of Griffin; son, Brian Carter of Grayson; daughter, Amanda Dial, her husband Travis and their children, Camden and Ella of Hampton; daughter, Emily Carter and her daughter, Layla of Hampton; brother, Kimble Carter, his wife, Helen and their children, Ansley and Andrew of Meansville; special niece Connie Kelly, her husband Ken and their children, Madison and Makenna of Bremen, many other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation for Mr. Larry Keith Carter will be on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Hampton First Baptist Church, Hampton, Georgia, following the visitation funeral services will be conducted in the sanctuary of Hampton First Baptist Church. Pastor Craig McAdams will officiate. Interment will be on Wednesday morning, February 20, 2013 at 10:00 am in Berea Cemetery, Hampton, Georgia.
