Mrs. Maezie Zorn Lawrence

Mrs. Maezie Zorn Lawrence, age 76 of Griffin, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012 at Spalding Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Lawrence was born on September 14, 1936 in Ashburn, Georgia, but was raised in Irwinville, Georgia. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Zorn and Margaret Ponder Zorn. Mrs. Lawrence was a former member of the Spalding Hospital Auxiliary and a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Larry W. Lawrence; daughter Pam Callaway and husband, Cory; son, Kevin Lawrence; granddaughter, Carly Callaway; brothers, Legette Zorn, Billy Zorn; sister, Betty Laminack.

Visitation for Mrs. Maezie E. Lawrence will be on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 10:30am in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Dr. Randy Valimont will officiate. Thomas Clarence Kendrick-Holmes

Died Dec. 10, 2012



Thomas Clarence Kendrick-Holmes, 70, died at his home, Monday, Dec.10, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Memorial services will be held at noon Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at Vineville Presbyterian Church (now Strong Tower). The Rev. John Kinser and the Rev. David Jordan will officiate. The family will greet friends at the church following the memorial service. Burial will be private.

Tommy was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Dimon Kendrick-Holmes and his father, Thomas Clarence Kendrick, Jr. of Columbus, and his adopted father, Shi Gray Holmes of Zebulon.

Tommy graduated from Gordon Military High School in 1960. He attended Mercer University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and received his A.B. Degree in 1964. He received a J.D. Degree from Mercer Law School in 1968, where he was President of Delta Theta Phi Legal Fraternity. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army upon his graduation and served two years in Frankfurt, Germany.

He practiced law, with a specialty in real estate, for 34 years in Macon.

During his lifetime, he was active in many civic activities and served on several boards. He was an Eagle Scout and was able to enjoy his grandson’s Eagle Scout Ceremony 50 years from his own.

Tommy’s first commitment was to his Lord, Jesus Christ, then to his family, friends, and those in need. He was a member and Elder of Vineville Presbyterian Church (now Strong Tower). He taught Sunday School there for many years. His Christian values and compassionate heart caused him to help others in many ways, especially the disabled and needy in this world.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joann Cotton Kendrick-Holmes. Other survivors include his daughter, Martha Dimon (Dimy) Kendrick-Holmes Mixon (Tom) of Griffin; and son, Thomas Clarence Kendrick-Holmes Jr. of Macon; his grandchildren, Arthur Thomas Mixon III and Ann Garrett Mixon of Griffin; his brother, Charles Kendrick-Holmes (Barbara) of LaFayette, Ala.; his brother-in-law, Paul Quinton Cotton (Ruthie) of Macon; his special cousins, Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Homer (Skoot) of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Louise Pritchard

Mary Louise Pritchard, 93, of Lawrenceville, formerly of College Park, passed away Dec. 7, 2012. She was born in Stockbridge, on April 18, 1919.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Roy Pritchard and her son Bill Pritchard. She was a 50-year resident of College Park, Ga. Mrs. Pritchard worshipped and taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church of College Park. She moved to Griffin in 2000, where she worshipped at Second Baptist Church. In Griffin, she became known as the “Muffin Lady” for her kind and generous gifts of homemade bran muffins which she provided for church members, shut-ins, friends and neighbors.

Surviving are son Ken (Debbi) Pritchard of Buford; grandchildren April Pritchard of Griffin, Adam Pritchard of Griffin, Heather Jones of Atlanta; great-grandson Ashton Boggs of Atlanta; brother-in-law Charles (Catherine) Pritchard; many nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at 2 p.m., at College Park Cemetery. Mrs. Virginia Heaton

Mrs. Virginia Heaton, age 91 of Griffin, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012 at Brightmoor Nursing Center.

Mrs. Heaton was born in Grady County, Georgia on November 13, 1921. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie J. Sculley and Cora Stegall Sculley. Mrs. Heaton was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Ginger Wiley and husband, James; grandsons, Rusty and Ryan Wiley; granddaughter, Stephania Wiley Sanders; 2 brothers; 4 sisters; numerous other family members.

Visitation for Mrs. Virginia Heaton will be on Saturday, December 15, 2012 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Rehoboth Baptist Church, 1304 Barnesville Road, Griffin, GA, 30224. Following the visitation, funeral services will be conducted at 1:00pm at the Church. Reverend Jesse Dasher will officiate.

Mrs. Florence Southern, age 78 of Griffin, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012.

Mrs. Southern was born in Brooks, Georgia on July 14, 1934. She is preceded in death by her parents, Grigue Lee Grant and Mamie Jewell Peeples Grant; husband, Charles Hubert Southern; granddaughter, Shannon McNeeley. Mrs. Southern was a member of First Assembly of Griffin.

Survivors include her daughter, Gail Southern and husband, David; son, Lee Southern and wife, Robin; grandchildren, Michael Southern, Amanda Souther, Cason Funerburk-Southern, Sonja McNeeley; great grandchild, Tristan Jarrett; sisters, Ruby G. Bunn, Dell G. Stallings, Orell G. McEachern; twin brother, Roy Floyd Grant and wife, Anne; sister-in-law, Joyce Grant; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Walter Frank Griggs

Mr. Walter Frank Griggs, 70, of 1742 Pineview Road, Griffin, formerly of the Republic of Panama), passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Augusta.

Funeral arrangements for Mr. Griggs will be Saturday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. at Eighth Street Baptist Church, Griffin with interment to follow in Trinity AME Church Cemetery in Durand.

Mr. Griggs was a retired veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Griggs ws enlised in the United States Army over 20 years. He was active with Prince Hall Masonic Lodge and traveled all the way to 33rd Shriners, Boy Scouts of America, and he was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Griggs was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Benjamin F. and Mrs. Julia Mae Bray-Griggs. He leave to mourn his memory, four sons, Mr. Dwayne (Dorothy) Griggs, of Fresno, Texas, Mr. Walter F. Griggs Jr. and Mr. Michael David Griggs, both of Michigan, and Domicic F. Griggs, of Florida; one daughter, Ms. Nikola E. Griggs, of Florida; sisters, Mrs. Frances Kelly of Ozone Park, N.Y., Mrs. Frankie Smith, of Birmingham; Mrs. Macie Wright, of Florida, and Ms. Pearl (John Moreland) Griggs, of Griffin; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss him dearly.
