From the Annals of 1910

Col. George Harbin of Arizona, arrived in the city of make Griffin his home, associating himself with Col. E.P. Patterson in the practice of law.

J.A.J. Tidwell, one of the oldest and most respected residents of Spalding County, leased his farms in Line Creek and at Williamson and moved to Lithonia.

Bailey Fowler came to the city and confirmed the statement of his purchase of the Hartwell mills, and said that he would be located there and begin to put things in shape, the mills having been shut down for some time past. Mr. Fowler’s friends here were delighted at this purchase and satisfied that with his well-known ability as a mill man he would soon have the property on a splendidly paying basis.

Miss Nell Drewry left for Birmingham to spend some time there with her brother, Paul D. Drewry, and family.

Miss Annie Laura Lewis of Hampton, Junior Miss Georgia 1960, was the special guest of Freddie Miller on the “Stars of Tomorrow” program. This was the first of many appearances Mill Lewis made during 1960 in connection with her reign as “Junior Miss Georgia.”

Jerry L. Greene of Griffin was named to the fall quarter dean’s list at Georgia State College in Atlanta. He was a student in the School of Arts & Sciences.

Three Griffin girls were named to the fall quarter dean’s list at Tift College. They were: Charlene McClung, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Price McClung; Sara Moore, daughter of Mrs. M.C. Ballard; and Brenda Pulliam, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Pulliam.

James H. Skipper Jr., of Griffin was named to the fall quarter dean’s list at the University of Georgia.

Pfc. Christopher C. Blackmon, son of Jerry Blackmon of Trion, Ga., and Peggy Brown of Griffin, was promoted in the U.S. Army to his present rank.

Pfc. Rodney B. Fletcher, son of Arthur and Catherine Fletcher of Barnesville, was decorated with the Army Achievement Medal at Ft. Bragg, N.C. He is a 1983 graduate of Lamar County Comprehensive High School at Barnesville.

Army National Guard Pvt. Larry K. Phillips, son of Tommie L. Phillips of Griffin, and Betty J. Blackerby of Forsyth, completed basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky. He is a 1981 graduate of Griffin High School.

Airman Steven W. Adkins, son of Mary F. Hutto and stepson of Johnny M. Hutto of Milner, was assigned to Chanute Air Force Base, Ill. after completing Air Force basic training.

Tom Couch and Kimberly Bush Couch celebrated their second wedding anniversary with dinner out. The couple have a daughter, Courtney Nicole Couch.

Cedrick Reid and Janice Carver Reid celebrated their first wedding anniversary with an anniversary party. The couple have four children, Kiashii, Baby “G”, Tae-Tae, and Cedrick Jr.

John T. and Sandie A. Jordan Sr. celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary at home. They have two children, John T. Jordan Jr. and Jamie Lee-Ann Jordan.

Bennie Cato and Angela McDaniel Cato celebrated their second wedding anniversary, looking forward to many years together filled with happiness.

Eddie Whitlock accepted his saber after being named the 2005 General of Griffin at the Griffin/Spalding Chamber of Commerce 93rd Annual Dinner.

Sylvia Hollums was given the Outstanding Citizen Award by Jim Ogletree at the 2005 Griffin/Spalding Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner. The award was sponsored by United Bank.

Rufus Taylor accepted the Mildred Rainwater Award from his wife, Emma Jean at the 93rd Annual Griffin/Spalding Chamber of Commerce Dinner.

Jinna Renee Goodwin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Goodwin of Williamson, was named to the dean’s list at Pensacola Christian College for the fall semester.
