Miss Gertrude McDowell returned to Decatur where she resumed her studies at Agnes Scott College. The report that typhoid fever had broken up this school was exaggerated and the situation there was not as bad as stated.

Clarence E. Mack, aviation machinist’s mate third class, USN, son of Mrs. Tearesa Mack of Griffin, serving with the Fighter Squadron 124, was taking part in a large fleet training exercise off the coast of Southern Calif. involving units of the U.S. Pacific Fleet.
Army Sgt. 1st Class William P. Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. William E.D. Moore of Griffin, participated with the 8th Division’s 505th Infantry in Operation Jump Down in Germany.
Billy E. Pitts, seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Pitts of Griffin, serving aboard the heavy cruiser USS Helena, was taking part in a large fleet training exercise off the coast of Southern Calif. involving units of the U.S. Pacific Fleet.
Henry G. Pilcher III, aviation electrician mate airman apprentice, USN, son of Mrs. Naomi Williams of Griffin, graduated from Aviation Electrician’s Mate School at the Naval Air Technical Training Center, Jacksonville, Fla.

Andrea R. Smith of Milner was named to the dean’s list at Gordon Jr. College for winter quarter.
Karen Kay Martin of Griffin presented a voice recital at Gordon Jr. College in the student center auditorium with a reception afterward. She also received an associate in arts degree in vocal performance in June. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Martin.
Kelly Morgan rode to a second place barrel-racing finish as the Flint River Saddle Club hosted a horse show here. More than 300 riders from 14 North Georgia riding clubs participated.
Ribbon cutting ceremonies were held at Hollis T.V. Sales and Service on the North Expressway. Owners Harold and Jo Ellis were joined by officials from the city, county, and Chamber of Commerce in the festivities.

Mat and Milton Ritchie celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Their children are Jeanne and Tim Ledbetter, Milton and Lynn Ritchie, and Frankie and Teressa Ritchie.
Roy James and Alberta Cardin Bailey celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary with a family cook-out at the home of Tim and Barcia Chasteen in Tucker. Their children are Faye and Russ Chasteen of Roswell, and Brenda and Rene Cormier of Augusta.
Tony and Jackie Barkley Connell celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary at the American Legion in Griffin. Their children are Jarkeshia Connell and Raven Connell.
Wakesha A. Williams graduated from Georgia Tech with a bachelor of science degree in architecture. She also made the dean’s list. She is a 1993 graduate of Griffin High School. Williams is the daughter of Betty (B.J.) Williams.

Rodney and MeQuanta McCord celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary. The couple were married at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The couple celebrated with a nice dinner with Mrs. McCord’s fourth grade students.
Tommy and Bertha Wilson celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They are the parents of Gail (Rufus) Mayes, Jackie Wilson, Alexia Pye and D’Andre Lamar. The couple were married at the courthouse.
J.C. “Bud” and Maudie Phillips celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They are the parents of Dale and Walter Bunn, Doug and Carol Phillips, Sara Carden, Harold andAnn Phillips, Dan andWanda Phillips and Abigail. They planned to celebrate with an overnight sentimental trip to Alabama where they were married.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Weldon of Milner celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends. They are the parents of John Weldon, Tommy and Angelique Weldon, and Kenny and Beth Gaff. To celebrate the occasion, the couple took a trip to Holland, Mich., where they spent their first honeymoon.
