Mrs. Henry Walker entertained very informally but delightfully for her guest, Miss Ethel Neel, only the unmarried contingent being present. A dainty luncheon was served during the evening.
Miss Corinne Nall and Miss Rebecca Nall left for Tallulah Falls, where they spent a day and night with Miss Theo Tinsley, and from there they went to Highlands, N.C., for a month’s stay.
Mrs. R.H. Taylor left for Lookout Mountain, where she was the guest of Mrs. Walter Temple, Mrs. Frank Caldwell, and Mrs. Maurice Temple for several weeks.
Mrs. Joseph Thomas entertained with a lovely tea especially in compliment to her guest, Mrs. William Burwell, of Sparta. The home was most artistically decorated for the occasion with growing ferns, roses and china asters. The polished mahogany of the tea table shone through the lace mats, the centerpiece being a large bowl of pink Killarney roses.

Claudia Smith, student at Griffin High School, was selected Miss Spalding County Fair of 1959. Runner-ups were Anne Davis and Linda Davis. Some 15 pretty young ladies entered the event.
Larry Skipper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Skipper of Griffin, completed boot training in San Diego, Calif. Following a 15-day leave he reported to Norfolk, Va., where he took a 16-week course in radio school. He attended Griffin High School.
Miss Fannie Westmoreland and Miss Doris Elliott left for New York City where they spent a week vacationing and sightseeing before returning to Griffin.
Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Sikes of Griffin celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner at the Municipal Park. Before the dinner, members of the family attended church at the Second Baptist Church. Out of 26 members of the family, all but three attended the church service.

Susan V. Alexander of Griffin, was named to the winter quarter dean’s list at West Georgia College in Carrollton. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Alexander of Griffin.
Dillon L. Prine of Griffin was named to the dean’s list at Mercer University. He was a sophomore majoring in accounting.
Hal Calhoun, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth R. Calhoun of Riverdale and formerly of Griffin, was named to the dean’s list for winter quarter at Georgia Tech. He is the grandson of Mrs. Florence Calhoun of Griffin.
Malcolm Goss Jr., son of Mr. Malcolm Goss of Griffin, was named to the president’s list at the DeVry Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He was a student in the electronics technician program.

Arthur W. and Margaret Grant Sauley celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. They were married at the home of the late Judge Steve Wallace. They have three daughters, Sandra S. Wheatley and Wanda S. Fennell of Virginia, and Wendy Sauley-Simmons of Griffin.
Marty Wright and Demetrious Juriel celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary with gifts and dinner at Red Lobster.
Kathleen Adams of Griffin was one of 1,500 high school seniors or recent graduates to be awarded one of four types of scholarships to attend Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Adams, a student at Griffin High School, was awarded a President’s Baylor Scholarship, which provided up to $13,000 for four years.
The U.S. Achievement Academy announced that Justin Cropsey of Griffin was named an All-American Scholar. He was a student at Griffin High School and the son of Paul and Sande Cropsey of Griffin. Cropsey was nominated by Richard Beaton.

The Spalding High School Concert Band performed at the GMEA District VI High School Band Performance Evaluations at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center. The band received the highest rating of 1 (“superior”) for their performance and a rating of 2 (“excellent”) for their sight reading performance.
The pre-kindergarten class at Moore Elementary School found a shiny surprise left in their room on St. Patrick’s Day. When the class returned from lunch, the students found their room filled with gold coins, green footprints and discovered several items were out of place.
Charles M. Jones, owner, presented employee Darwin Williamson an award at a dinner given in his honor. Williamson had logged 20 years of service as manager of Jones Harrison Furniture Co., Inc.
Members of the Griffin Moose Lodge generated $7,351 for the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office’s Junior Deputy program. The money was generated through an auction held earlier in the month in which local businesses and merchants donated the items that were auctioned off.
