Miss Mildred Wooley, who had been visiting Miss Addie Anthony for some days, returned to her home in Atlanta, to the regret of her many Griffin friends.
Miss Henrietta Searcy was the delightful young hostess at an al fresco party at Camp Northern, given in honor of Mr. Ben Smith, of Atlanta, the guest of Mrs. Douglas Boyd. Several games were played by the young boys and girls, and delicious refreshments served during the evening.
Miss Addie Anthony entertained informally with a porch tea in honor of her house guests, Miss Callaway and Miss Woolley. Receiving with Miss Anthony and her guests was Mrs. Homer Wilson. Mrs. George Brown and Mrs. Edward Halyburton served punch on the side porch and later in the evening a sandwich course and an ice course were served. Fifteen young ladies called during the receiving hour.
Mrs. Carlton Jones entertained informally in honor of Mrs. A.W. Hodnett, the guest of Mrs. Robert Strickland. Two tables of bridge were played and after the game a dainty sweet course was served.

Army Pvt. Donnie M. Brown, whose wife, Wilma and mother, Mrs. Gladys Brown, lived in Griffin, was assigned to the 7th Division Artillery in Korea. He is a 1955 graduate of Griffin High School and was employed by the Kroger Company in Atlanta before entering the Army.
Navy Aviation Electrician’s Mate 3rd Class Robert E. Sharp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward V. Sharp of Hampton, was serving with Airborne Barrier Service Squadron Two at the Naval Air Station, Barber’s Point, Hawaii.
Army Sgt. First Class James R. McElheney, son of Mrs. Lurline McElheney of Griffin, participated in a lengthy field training exercise with the 4th Armored Division in Grafenwhor, Germany.
Marvin Clifford Williams, son of Mr. and Ms. Clarence Williams of Griffin, and Tommy Manley, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Manley of Griffin, completed 12 weeks of basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

The Griffin Rotary Club presented a check for $100 to the Griffin Music Club to be used toward the music club’s summer scholarship. Arthur Hammond, president of the Rotary Club, presented the check to Mrs. Sue Martin, president of the Griffin Music Club.
Shannon O’Brien was honored as Junior 4-H’er of the Year at the Griffin Kiwanis Club. Shannon is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert O’Brien of Brooks. Shannon was selected to receive the award along with Jr. 4-H’er Peter Ekstrom.
Cub Scouts of Pack 12, Den 4 of Orrs Elementary toured the Griffin Daily News plant. Making the tour were Dustin Dotson, Toby Chappell, Trey Gregory, Kirt Danielly, Gene Springer, Ben Hailey, Mark Strickland, and Tim Wilmoth.
Eric McClure won the Buckaroo of the Year Award, and Clayton Hutto was awarded the Straight Arrow of the Year Award in the Georgia Royal Rangers program sponsored by the Assemblies of God Churches.

Henry and Annie Bell Puckett celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Puckett were members of Faith United Methodist Church. They have six children including Willie, Charles, Vivian, Clinton, Cheynne and Eddie Puckett.
Jill Matlock of Griffin, a junior at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, was honored during the 71st annual All-University Convocation at the NU Coliseum.
Maria Parra of Griffin, a sophomore theater major at Berry College, received a Helen S. Worden Service Award, a community service award. Parra is the daughter of Mary F. Parra.
Kathy L. King of Griffin, a communication sciences and disorders major at the University of Georgia was a First Honor Grad. To receive this honor, King maintained a 4.0 grade point average during her academic career.

Fifth graders at Monroe Academy sponsored a “Bum Out Day” to raise money for breast cancer research. A check for $659.25 was sent to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Macon.
The Griffin High Jazz Ensemble provided entertainment for the annual Christmas Breakfast at the University of Georgia Campus. Santa (Tony Johnson) and his elf (Charles Gunter) welcomed Ensemble Director Robert Seymour and GHS junior and percussionist Drew Willis to the UGA Griffin Campus.
Drew NeSmith, state Junior Beta Club Chaplain and an 8th grader at Pike County Middle School, stood with fellow state officers and sponsors. NeSmith attended the Junior Beta Club State Convention in Macon with his chapter in Nov. with more than 4,000 other Junior Beta Club members from around the state.
Kiwanis of Griffin Kids League sponsors were presented awards of appreciation for their sponsorship of the Kiwanis Kids Baseball League and Kiwanis Kids Soccer League.
