Albert P. Sheppard, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.P. Sheppard of Griffin, was awarded a master of science degree at graduation exercises at Emory University.
Three of the five speakers at the Junior Fire Marshal Camp held at the FFA-FHA Camp were from Griffin. They were Bill Edwards, Capt. Leonard J. Pitts of the Griffin Fire Department and Miss Mary Fullilove.
Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Crawley celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner at the Municipal Park. Their children are Zed Crawley, Lee Crawley, Dee Crawley, Lawrence Crawley, Mrs. Irma Rawls and Mrs. Sarah Passmore.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray P. Horton and children were attending “The Around the World” conference for Fratex Home Fashions in Akron, Ohio. Mrs. Horton was unit manager with the county for Griffin district. Mrs. Horton was crowned “Golden Princess” for her achievements in the past two-and-a-half months.

Area Chairwoman for the Pine Valley Girl Scout Council Portia Lacey presented a certificate to the Volunteer of the Year for Spalding and Pike County, Trudi Gill.
Capt. Ivan Taylor’s last flight as a pilot for Eastern Airlines from Miami to Atlanta was a memorable one. As the Griffin resident led his plane off the taxiway, two tankers from the airport fire department sprayed the plane with water and saluted him on completing a 31-year career with Eastern.
Grady Donaldson of the Vocational Guidance Committee of the Griffin Kiwanis Club, presented Tom Blalock of the Vocational/Industrial Clubs of America at Griffin Tech, with a $200 check.
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Butler celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception in the Beth Kennedy Room of the Second Baptist Church. Nearly 80 relatives and friends called on Mr. and Mrs. Butler during the afternoon.

Joshua Taylor Johnson of Hampton was awarded the Griffin Rotary Club Scholarship award from the Gordon College Foundation to attend the two-year college in Barnesville. He is the son of Gerald and Reba T. Johnson.
Kalecia Holder won tickets to a Georgia Tech women’s basketball game in the “Let’s Read With Georgia Tech” program. The Cowan Road Elementary school-wide winner, Kalecia read a total of 2,131 pages. She was a fifth-grade student in Teresa Davis’ class.
Daniel Vaughn was awarded a medal as the Cowan Road Elementary School winner in the geography bee contest sponsored by National Geographic. Daniel was a fifth-grade student in Deborah Hasting’s class.
Bob and Margaret Luhrman celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They were married at Saint James Episcopal Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. Their children are Mr. and Mrs. Edward Luhrman, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Cooper and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Luhrman.

Air National Guard Tech Sgt. Tony Pitts, formerly of Griffin, graduated with Distinguished Honors as a Communications Computer Systems Operator with the 81st Group of the 336th Red Wolves Training Group, at Keesler AFB, Miss.
Dominique N. Worthy graduated from boot camp in the United States Navy out of Great Lakes, Ill. She is a 2004 honor graduate of Lamar County Comprehensive High School. She is the daughter of Gwen Worthy.
Courtney Black, 3, of Sunny Side, claimed her prize for winning the GDN’s Prettiest Pumpkin Contest.
Darren and Ann Gates celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary. They are the parents of Yashica Caldwell and Elini Robinson. They celebrated with a night out on the town and quiet time together. They were married at LeRoy and Mahalia Willis’ home, a very dear friend.
