Senoia City Council adopted an ordinance placing a $500 tax upon near-beer distributors. A tax of $1 each was also placed on automobiles and owners were required to place numbers on their machines and register same with the city clerk.
Col. David J. Bailey, Col. W.E.H. Searcy, Jr., Col. M.J. Daniel, F.E. Arwood, Henry Davis and other Griffin representatives returned home from the meeting of the Red Men in Atlanta, and reported a good meeting and a good time. Mr. Daniel was re-elected great chief of records, a position which he had filled in an able and satisfactory manner for many years.
Professor J. Henry Walker, Miss Nellie Corbin, Miss Corine Walker and Miss Roy Kincaid left for Cumberland Island to attend the State teacher’s meeting.

William R. Prescott was assigned to the Infantry Training Center at Fort Jackson, S.C. from Fort Benning, Ga., where he was an instructor. He is a native of Griffin.
Mrs. F.Q. Mixon returned to her home after spending two weeks at the Southeastern Jurisdictional Methodist Assembly at Lake Junaluska, N.C. She represented the First Methodist Church at the Assembly.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lewis and children, Barbara and Dwayne; and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lewis visited Lookout Mountain in Tennessee and other points of interest.
The Supreme Forest Woodmen Circle Grove 230 held its social at the home of Mrs. Florence Smith. Mrs. Bessie Collins, president, gave an interesting talk. Mrs. Eva Thurmond, special Field Representative, was welcomed as a visitor. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Smith, assisted by her daughter, Miss Ruby Kate Smith.

Domino’s Pizza delivered a whole truckload of canned goods to the Spalding County Department of Family and Children Services to be distributed to the needy at Christmas.
Local members of the Georgia Chapter of the International Association of Personnel in Employment Security (IAPES), collected canned goods for the needy in a statewide program. In cooperation with the Spalding County Department of Family and Children Services, the local IAPES group filled food baskets to donate to four families.
Members of the Gordon Jr. College Circle K Club donated food and gifts to the Spalding County Department of Family and Children’s Service needy program.

Army Staff Sgt. Albert W. Passmore Jr., the son of Albert and Sandra Passmore of Thomaston, was decorated with the Army Commendation Medal. He is a 1984 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and received an associate degree in 1986 from Gordon College.
Stephen D. Graham was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program, after graduating from North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega. Graham is the son of Julian and Sharon Graham of Griffin and a 1994 graduate of Griffin High School.
Army Pvt. Robert M. Streit was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, N.C. Streit is the son of Leo E. Streit of Williamson and Carmen M. Streit of Riverdale. He is a 1998 graduate of Griffin High School.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Michael Todd celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary. Their children are Hannah Nicole and Chelsie Denise. Mr. and Mrs. Todd were married in Thomaston.

Cowan Road Elementary fourth-grade students attended “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at the Clayton Performing Arts Center.
Janet Fulton of the Republican Ladies, won a basket during the organization’s annual Christmas luncheon hosted by Alton and Annette Knight.
Ericka Anderson, Orrs Assistant Principal, and Stan Mangham, Orrs Principal, were up on the roof at Orrs Elementary School. They rewarded the students for all of their hard work on Accelerated Reader. Orrs had a total of 15 Model Classrooms.
Air Force Airman James Randall “Randy” Passmore graduated from basic military training from Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Quam and Mr. and Mrs. James Passmore. He is a 2004 Spalding High Honor Graduate.
