I.E. Haisten, formerly of Brooks, but who had been living at Vaughns for some time, moved to Hampton, where he had formed a partnership with Smith and Davis, whom he had worked for in years past.
B.W. Williams, of Line Creek, was in the city completing the purchase of 200 acres of land from Edgar Reed near Drewryville. Mr. Williams the prior year had bought 105 acres of Jack Scott in Mt. Zion District and was becoming one of the landed proprietors of the county.
Mrs. Ophella Touchstone and Miss Sadie Lou Drewry returned from Greenville, where they spent two weeks as the guests of Mrs. Pryor Fitch, and were charmingly entertained at several receptions and dinner parties given in their honor.

Army Spc. 4 William Smith, whose wife, Dorothy, lived in Griffin, participated in ceremonies marking the first time the 49-star American Flag was flown at Fort McHenry, Md. Smith was last stationed in Korea. His father, Mr. Henry Smith, lived in Griffin.
Recruit Evelyn M. Wood, daughter of Mr. Raymond O. Moore of Atlanta, completed eight weeks of basic military training at the Women’s Army Corps Center, Ft. McClellan, Ala. Her mother, Mrs. Fannie M. Moore, lived in Griffin.
Navy Aviation Ordnanceman 2nd Class William E. Storey, brother of F.W. Storey of Griffin, returned to Norfolk, Va. aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Independence after eight weeks of training in the Caribbean Sea.
Army Pvt. Render E. Harris, son of Mr. James R. Harris of Griffin, completed eight weeks of military police training at Fort Gordon, Ga. He is a 1954 graduate of Griffin High School.

Mrs. Catherine Y. Shuman, Griffin Christian Academy first grade teacher, was selected Teacher of the Month by the Griffin Kiwanis Club. She was awarded a plaque to Commemorate her selection.
Jack Hayes, who was the Boy Scout executive for the Flint River Council, accepted a $1,000 check from Rotary President Arthur Hammond. The club gave the money to repair the roof of the Scout headquarters.
Dana Balew, a Spalding Jr. High ninth grader, successfully auditioned to participate in the Georgia Music Educators Association’s All-State Band at the GMEA Convention in Columbus. Ballew took private lessons from Mrs. Charlotte Johnson.
Mark Phinazee, Virginia Ball and Becky Brantley represented Griffin High School at a breakfast for high school counselors hosted by Gordon Jr. College.

Navy Seaman Shameka L. Barkley, daughter of Waymon Colbert of Griffin and Batrina Barkley of Griffin, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. She is a 1998 graduate of Griffin High School.
Cynthia Kirkley of Concord became an instructor with Creative Memories, teaching people how to turn photos and memorabilia into keepsake, photo-safe albums.
Chris Williams of Griffin was accepted into the Mercer University Doctorate of Pharmacy program. Williams is the son of Bobby and Patsy Williams of Griffin and a graduate of Griffin High School.
Michele Brown, Maya Eady and Renee McIver, all of Griffin, each received an O.H. Stinson scholarship from the Griffin-Spalding County Citizens and Improvement League.

Pulaski Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution members attended the S.W. District Workshop in Macon. Attending from Griffin were Alice Pounds, Nancy Morris, Christine Napier, Annette Mauchet and Alice Blake.
Nathan Flitcroft, a Flynt Middle School student, won first place in the 2004 Statewide Fire Prevention Week Essay Contest. Nathan was honored at an awards luncheon at the Sheraton Atlanta.
Mitchell and Roni Lee Goodman celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary. They are the parents of Robin Goodman and Mitch Goodman Jr. The couple were married at Sunny Side Baptist Church. They celebrated with a weekend spent in a cabin out of town.
Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Howard celebrated their first anniversary. They are the parents of Jaccinta, Aminta and Sonqueria. The couple celebrated with a trip to Savannah.
