A delightful party was given by Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Keith at their home on N. Sixth Street. The house was prettily decorated with holly wreaths, red bells of different sizes, handsome ferns and tall bases of marguerites with their feathery foliage. Many games were enjoyed by the young folks, after which delicious refreshments were served.
Miss Carrie Corbin returned to Barnesville after spending some time here with home folks.
The old D.W. Patterson building on East Solomon Street was sold at public auction, being bought by Messers. J.W. Gresham and C.W. Wheeler for $5,150.
Webster Dunton, one of Charlie Sanders’ excellent barbers, went to Cobb County to farm and cut hay instead of hair.

George Imes Jr., of Griffin, was appointed Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of Elk Lodges for the Northeast district of Georgia. Imes was past exalted ruler of the Griffin Lodge of Elks and was currently serving as Tiler of the lodge.
John Goddard, attorney and Judge of City Court, was appointed chairman of the 1959 Community Chest fund raising drive.
Misses Carol and Marsha Pilcher of Griffin left to visit their grandmother, Mrs. C.A. Pye, at Lake Lanier in Inman, S.C.
Vickie Vaughn arrived home from Honolulu where she had been visiting her aunt and uncle, Master Sgt. and Mrs. W.W. Maddox and her cousin, Cindy Maddox.

Kathy Cleveland completed her freshman year at Gordon Jr. College with a 4.0 grade average. Mrs. Cleveland was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, a national honorary fraternity for junior colleges.
Alice E. Colvin, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W.S. Colvin, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W.S. Colvin of Griffin was named to the Salem Academy honor roll for the first grading period of the 1984-85 academic year.
Gayle D. Royals of Griffin was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges at Tift College.
Avery Villines of Griffin was one of 18 students from Valdosta State College to win an audition slot in the Southeastern Theater Conference in Tampa, Fla. VSC had more students participating than any other school in the state.

Marine Pfc. Daniel J. Pitman, son of Lynn L. and stepson of Danny R. Sheets of Hampton, was promoted to his present rank after completing basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. He is a 1998 graduate of Lovejoy High School.
Air Force Sr. Airman Richard W. Smith, a communications and navigation systems technician assigned to the 437th Aircraft Generation Squadron at Charleston Air Force Base, was promoted to his present rank. He is the son of Richard A. and Vickie W. Smith of Milner and a 1994 graduate of Pike County High School.

The Boy Scouts of America Pack 70 held its annual Pinewood Derby car race. First year Webelos winners were: Tommy Yeary, first place; Ryan Cox, second place; and Kelley Chambers, third place.

Mrs. Shannon Kennemer, parent volunteer at Orrs Elementary School was helping Daniel Clevenger and Linda Ann Strickland from Mrs. Birath’s kindergarten class took an Accelerated Reader test.
Hazel Pickering of Griffin celebrated her 104th birthday. She was a retired nurse and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Griffin. In the church bulletin, she thanked everyone for remembering her birthday and stated, “I will see you next year.”
Michael Kendall and Eddie Whitlock were given plaques for their service to the community in 2004 by community organization “Hoop 3”. Rodney McCord and Cessel Taylor honored these two community service leaders.
