Miss Sallie Fannie Garland returned to Gainesville to resume her studies at Brenau College, after spending the holidays here with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. H.J. Garland.
Dr. R.H. Taylor, of Griffin, spent a weekend with his sister, Mrs. J.W. Culpepper. Dr. Taylor was one of the most prominent physicians of Griffin and had a host of friends in Fayette who were always glad to have him visit their city and county.
A.G. Smith, junior member of the firm of Wiley L. Smith & Son, accepted a position as traveling salesman for the Tennessee Coffin and Casket Company of Chattanooga. He retained his business interests here and also continued to make Griffin his home.
Mr. Dean, a skillful pharmacist connected with the Todd Drug Co. in Atlanta for five years, accepted a position with the Head Drug Co. here.

Navy Ensign Arthur J. Copeland Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Copeland of Griffin, serving aboard the destroyer USS Putnam, visited Chicago, Ill., as part of Operation “Inland Seas”, a vast naval exercise to celebrate the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Navy Machinist 3rd Class Zane Goodin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luke Goodin of Griffin, serving aboard the destroyer USS Willard Keith, visited Chicago, Ill., as part of Operation “Inland Seas”, a vast naval exercise to celebrate the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Ronnie Grogan and Joyce Perdue were named to the spring dean’s list at Middle Georgia College at Cochran, Ga. They both are from Griffin.
Sgt. 1st Class Paul E. Hoffman was awarded a 10-year service medal by the National Guard in Griffin.

Members of the Griffin Elks Aidmore Auxiliary celebrated their 30th birthday with a reception for charter members, members, and husbands at the Elks Lodge on Williamson Road.
A ribbon was cut to signal the opening of Arby’s Roast Beef on the North Expressway. The ribbon was cut by Tom Dennis, owner of the Griffin franchise.
Mr. and Mrs. William Tyler Sr. of Zebulon celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the home of their oldest daughter, Mattie Ruth Loveless in Concord. Nine of the couple’s 11 children attended the golden anniversary celebration.
Griffin Police Cpl. Carzi Hawthorne presented money to Audie Wells, president of the Griffin Jaycees chapter. The Griffin Police desk sergeants and corporals contributed money to send disadvantaged children to the Jaycee Circus at the Griffin High auditorium.

Marlene (Molly) Pinson retired from the Spalding County Tax Assessors Office after 38 years of service to the county. She was honored by her co-workers with a reception at the Courthouse Annex.
Marine Sgt. Jason P. Wilson, son of Johnny G. and Sulla C. Wilson of Jackson, completed a six-month deployment to Okinawa, Japan, with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, as part of the Unit Deployment Program. Wilson is a 1993 graduate of Mary Pearsons High School of Forsyth.
Marine Cpl. Octavius R. Shivers, son of Sandra L. Clark of Jackson, was promoted to his present rank while serving with the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He is a 1995 graduate of Jackson High School.
Marine Sgt. Harry S. Connell, a 1993 graduate of Pike County High School, completed a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit embarked aboard the ships of the USS Saipan Amphibious Ready Group.

Sherika Morris, daughter of David & Cora Morris made the dean’s list at Georgia State University for the spring semester 2004. She was also recognized by the International Honor Society as being in the top 10 percent of her class.
The Five Loaves and Two Fish Food Pantry presented a plaque to Charles Jones. The plaque recognized Jones for allowing the pantry to use Jones-Harrison Furniture trucks at no charge.
Jack and Dolly Anderson celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary. They are the parents of Jack Jr. and Amy Rainey. The couple were married at Sunny Side Holiness Church in Sunny Side by the Rev. Billy Anderson. The couple celebrated with a quiet dinner on the town.
Gregory and Gwen Crews celebrated their first anniversary. They are the parents of Khadijah, Jahi, Chris and Chesry. The couple celebrated with a trip to Las Vegas. Mr. and Mrs. Crews were married at the Spalding County Courthouse.
