Dr. J.L. Gable, S.H. Martin, A.G. Jones and Ben Ogletree, of Brooks, and T.W.T. Wilson, of Haralson, were in the city on the way to Macon to attend the Masonic meeting in that city.
Col. H.A. Allen, of Senoia, was mingling with his many friends here. He was many years ago the News and Sun correspondent at Rest, but had become a prominent lawyer of Senoia.
The dwelling house of G.C. Kelley came very near being burned. It caught from the fireplace on the outside of the house and burned the window curtains and shades.
E.H. Hallyburton, who was popular in the business and social circles of our city, became associated with David J. Bailey in the real estate and insurance business.

Navy Seaman Billy E. Pitts, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Pitts of Griffin, was serving aboard the heavy cruiser USS Helena which visited Portland during the city’s 1959 Rose Festival.
Navy Seaman Ernest M. Giles, ward of Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Giles of Experiment, was serving aboard the heavy cruiser USS Helena which visited Portland during the city’s Rose Festival.
Sidney F. Melton of Griffin was among the students named to the dean’s list at Stetson University at the end of the spring semester.
Mary Eleanor Wright of Griffin was named to the dean’s list at West Georgia College at the end of the spring semester.

Pvt. Willie G. Mayes, son of Ida B. Mayes of Griffin, graduated as an Armor Crewman in the U.S. Army Armor School at Fort Knox, Ky. He is a 1984 Griffin High School graduate.
Sgt. Thomas Colquitt Jr., son of Tommie L. and Thomas L. Colquitt of Meansville, arrived for duty in Boeblingen in West Germany. He is a 1972 Pike County High School graduate.
Pvt. Donald L. Mitchell, son of Donald L. and Jackie M. Mitchell of Williamson, completed basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky. He is a 1984 Pike County High School graduate.
Pvt. Jimmie L. Willis Jr., son of Jimmie L. Willis of Musella, Ga., completed basic training at Fort McClelland, Ala.

Dr. Hugh Hall joined CareMaster Medical Services as hospice medical director. Hall, a 1979 graduate of Griffin High School, graduated from Medical College of Georgia in 1992 and returned to Griffin in 1995 to begin his practice at Internal Medicine of Griffin.
Ann M. Rape, of Woodmen of the World, was awarded the National Quality Aard and the National Sales Achievement Award by the National Association of Life Underwriters in Washington, D.C.
Barbara Duncan of Liberty National Life Insurance Company was awarded the National Sales Achievement Award by the National Association of Life Underwriters in Washington, D.C.
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Thomas C. Hayes, son of Tony and Gail Hayes of Griffin, was supporting Hurricane Mitch disaster relief efforts in Honduras while serving with U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion SEVEN (NMCB-7).

BB Enlightenment Academy Director Dr. Bernice P. Buchanan and Executive Administrator Dr. W.J. Buchanan, celebrated their ribbon cutting ceremony with Board of Directors Vice Chairman Chuck Copeland and members of the Griffin-Spalding Chamber of Commerce.
The Griffin Utility Club concluded the 2003-2004 season by honoring its members. Mrs. Howell Tucker recognized Bonnie Pfrogner with a 25-year perfect attendance plaque.
Ryan McLemore, assistant director of finance with the Griffin-Spalding County School System, was inducted as a new member of Kiwanis of Griffin. McLemore was sponsored by fellow KoG member Jim Smith.
Spalding County Republican Party Chairman Alton Knight cut the ribbon signifying the county GOP headquarters grand-opening as local Republicans, Karen Mathiak, state House candidate David Knight, state Sen.-elect John Douglas, Lauren Cosco and state Rep. John Yates observed.
