The Rev. Ray Averitt of St. James Episcopal Church of Eufala, Ala. accepted a call to become rector of the St. George’s Episcopal Church in Griffin.

Judge and Mrs. W.H. Beck Jr. left for California to attend the national convention of Exchange Clubs.

Mr. and Mrs. Julius Johnson and family and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Gardener attended the second anniversary of the Harbor in LaGrange.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Crawford spent the day in Atlanta with friends.

Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Sewell visited Mr. F.W. Rice and family over the weekend.

Dr. and Mrs. Robert L. Green and son, Bob, spent the weekend with their mother and grandmother, Mrs. Ruth M. Cowant.

Joe Ellison visited his mother, Mrs. F.W. Price and family.

Baron Cumming, captain of the Griffin Eagles, was selected Player of The Week. He was considered an all-state candidate by the Griffin High Coaching staff.

Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Moore and Misses Mary Lois and Lynda Moore were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. B.C. Hill in Zebulon.

Thirteen-year-old Quddus Varner of Spalding High Unit II was the youngest student to enroll at Georgia State University.

The Griffin Association of Life Underwriters elected new leaders including Greg Rosenthal, Bill McGaha, Arthur Lesser and Harold Garner.

Sixth grade students who earned the A-B Honor Roll at Beaverbrook Elementary School were Tim Turner, Donna Chosewood, Brian Johnson, Brian Lee, Becky Adams, Shannon Studle, Alisia Blessitt, Heather Jett and Joe Dickerson.

Tech Sgt. Charles O. Boothe, the son of Woodrow and Helen Boothe, was decorated with the second award of the Air Force Commendation Medal at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla.
