• Wait a minute, this Kroger deal is getting more confusing. The GDN (Aug. 30) front-page article says that Kroger is buying the government bonds that are being issued to raise money to loan Kroger. Did I read that right? First time I’ve seen this in print. Why issue the bonds if this is the way it is? Why aren’t the Kroger bonds sold on the open bond market? Is this legal?

• Sally Kohn of Fox News says Paul Ryan’s speech was full of lies. Duh, has she looked at who is in the White House now?

• “If truth is not undergirded by love, it makes the possessor of that truth obnoxious and the truth repulsive.” — Ravi Zacharias

• It is good that the University of Georgia has a football team. That way the police in Athens know where to find the criminals.

• What happened to the beautiful wildflowers planted on 19/41?

• When is someone going to clean up the railroad rights of way? They are disgusting little dumps.

• Professional athletes seem to perform better when they are using performance-enhancing drugs. Can we make it mandatory for our local elected officials to use performance-enhancing drugs?

• To the name callers that ridicule the people that complain about their taxes: It is clear that you do not have a tax problem. Is it because you are a local politician or close to one? Maybe you own no property and rent or live with your mother. If you are not affected by the unfair assessments, you have no right to talk about the people that are.

• Kroger has been a presence in our community for decades. They should be supported and applauded for wanting to expand (and not deserting us like J.C. Penney and K-mart). They will do more for this county and stay longer than Nacom or Metrotrans. Bravo, city and county commissioners for helping them bring us a bigger and better store.

• Perhaps, if you have enough money, you could sue Larry Griggers and the Appraisal and Collection company for failure to do their services (they never came to my house).

• The deadbeats who are complaining about their tax assessments should move to Clayton County. We don’t need your kind here.

I will start y saying the folks that work for the tax assessors office are behind the 8 ball on these tax assessments. Now riddle me this in 2011 I had the appraisers office come to my property to revaluate my property inside the house and outside. My property was appraised at $6000.00 higher whch was fair because we added a bathroom to the home. Now this year my appraisal came in $47,000.00 higher. both neighbors on both sides dropped by $6000 and $9000 soall I can say is WOW. I spoke with the appraiser that did the appraisal and he said because values were not appraised for a few years and he said exactly when I just don't remember, that this was the new value. All respect due because I personally like the Guy but that was a canned answer. Then the truth was spoken, because of a budget shortfall either millage rates go up or property values go up. Now I know my appeal will put mine back where it was because I had mine reappraised just in 2011 but good luck ya'll because of the misspending of our elected officials is gonna cost ya. With the coming elections I urge everyone to get out and vote out any and all incumbants it don't matter who or what position they are in they need to take a look at life from this side of the fence for a while.

If the citizens of our country had this attitude we would be playing God Save the Queen instead of the National Anthem before each ballgame.

In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
