The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office will hold a dedication next Saturday for a memorial to fallen officers,

Sheriff Wendell Beam said the dedication will be 9 a.m., Saturday in the front parking lot of the Spalding County Detention Center, He said the memorial for Spalding County officers killed in the line of duty will have two names, former Sheriff Dee Stewart and James Tarver, who was killed in 1980.

Stewart died, July 3, 2011, succumbing to injuries from a June 23, 2011, traffic accident at the intersection of Moose Lodge Road and Georgia Highway 3.

The monument was donated by Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, which also handled Stewart’s funeral arrangements.
