The Griffin Police Department (GPD) was dispatched to the intersection of Varsity Road and Spalding Drive Wednesday at about 10:45 a.m. in reference to an accident that involved six vehicles.

After gathering information from a Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) police officer about what had happened, Griffin police spoke with the driver of the vehicle that was determined to be the primary cause of the accident — 40-year-old Stephen Thurber Jr.

According to a GPD incident report, Thurber, who appeared to be agitated, was issued three citations and advised of his court date. Thurber reportedly refused to speak to police officers and did not answer when asked multiple times if he had a wrecker of preference.
