FAYETTEVILLE — The Skipstone Academy Lady Warriors varsity volleyball team won its first match of the year last Thursday, defeating the Grace Baptist Christian Lady Eagles 3-1 on the road.

After losing the first game 27-29, Skipstone (1-7) won the next three games 25-21, 29-27 and 25-20.

“Our leaders offensively were Kailee Turner with several assists and Kenzie Moody with 7 kills,” said Skipstone coach John Hassert. “Defensively, Keeley Adkisson and Rebecca Hassert saved many points with many amazing digs.”

Hassert said he was most proud of how the whole team joined together and played as one unit, encouraging each other every step of the way. Skipstone looks to start a win streak as it hosts Colonial Hills Thursday at 6 p.m.

Calvary Christian 3, Griffin Christian 0 (Sept. 20):

COLUMBUS — The Griffin Christian Lady Crusaders volleyball team lost its first match of the season last Thursday, falling 3-0 to Calvary Christian School.

Griffin Christian falls to 15-1 overall.

Calvary is ranked second in GISA Class AAA and they showed their strength by sweeping the No. 2 in GISA Class AA Lady Crusaders. GC lost 15-25, 21-25 and 23-25.

“They were really strong and we made some mistakes,” said GC coach Melanie Foster. “We fought hard through all three games. I believe we’ll be ready for Calvary when we see them again on Oct. 2 [at GC].”

GC hosted Arlington Christian on Senior Night Monday and travels to Atlanta today to face Holy Spirit Prep at 6 p.m. GC beat Holy Spirit in four games at home on Aug. 28.
