The Spalding High Lady Jaguars softball team kept the good times rolling, defeating the Riverdale Lady Raiders 10-2 Tuesday evening in Region 4-AAAA action in the Lady Jags’ last regular-season game at home this year.

Spalding won its fourth straight game to improve to 8-9 overall and 4-5 in region play.

The Lady Jags got Senior Night started in the bottom of the second inning. Morgan Kennedy singled home Jessica “Hot Dog” Bunn from second to give Spalding the 1-0 lead.

Spalding put the game away in the third. Zorria Mann doubled to center and reached third on a wild pitch. Nesia Walker then singled Mann home for the 2-0 Lady Jags lead. Walker stole second and third and came home on a single from Jennifer Viera. Kennedy did some more damage in the inning, knocking home Walker and Viera minutes later. When the dust settled, Spalding led 5-0.

Riverdale scored its only two runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 5-2, but that was as close as the Lady Raiders would get. Spalding’s Whitney Combs doubled, stole third and scored on a wild pitch and Viera had a 3-run single to make the score 9-2 in the fourth. Combs’ RBI single in the fifth made the Spalding score 10-2, ending the game due to the mercy rule.

“I’m glad we won on Senior Night in my last regular-season home game,” said Spalding’s only senior, Haedyn Kilgore, before eating dinner catered by Alvin’s Bar-B-Que. “Hopefully we can do well in the region tournament and play some more games at home.”

Spalding travels to face region foe Upson-Lee today at 5:30 p.m. in a makeup game from an earlier rainout.

Griffin 6, Howard 5 (Monday):

MACON — The Griffin High Lady Bears softball team rebounded from losing to crosstown rival Spalding last week, getting past Howard High 6-5 Monday evening in non-region action on the road.

Griffin improves to 10-11 on the season.

Chelsea Calloway and Katie Rowell had 2 hits each for Griffin. Calloway had a stolen base and scored 2 runs while Rowell had an RBI, a stolen base and scored a run. Ramesha Risper and Destiny Holston had a single and an RBI each and Cleopatra Randolph had an RBI.

Forrest Dukes pitched for the Lady Bears, allowing 4 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks.
